Speculative practice may seem as a top-down approach at first glance, placing the designer at the centre of the process, offering her personal vision, without involving the target audience. However, let’s keep in mind that one of the main goals of speculation is the inclusion of the public in the re-thinking and dialogue on new technological realities and new social relations. Also, a successful speculative project is necessarily connected to the research of a social context, and is fundamentally directed towards the individual needs and desires. Speculative design can be described as a creative and forward-thinking design approach that explores alternative futures and challenges assumptions. It aims to provoke critical thinking by envisioning innovative scenarios and concepts that may or may not come to fruition. The term, initially introduced by Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, is gaining popularity in the world of design, science, and art.

This project is based on my interest in uncovering what French writer George Perec calls the “infra-ordinary”, to describe the ordinary and habitual aspects of everyday life.

By the end of the night, after hours of impassioned debate, council members couldn’t agree on a motion merely to ask staff to draft a proclamation on Gaza. Still, some liberal cities have found it difficult to pass cease-fire resolutions. In San Francisco, several board members said they didn’t want to bring the war in Gaza into City Hall, and it’s far from certain that a resolution will pass there.

Cudahy is the first city in Southern California to support the Palestinian people of Gaza with a resolution that calls for a cease-fire. Local governments have been taking stands on global issues for decades. But given the intense debate over the war, the resolutions have heightened divisions in some communities and raised questions about what governments get out of them. But while a ceasefire could save lives in the short-term, there’s no reason to think that if the Israeli government stood down, that Hamas would too — and the resolution does not address that longer-term problem. This is very good news, because Los Angeles desperately needs more affordable housing and this bill would help. It would set up the Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency to build new affordable housing, preserve existing affordable housing and offer struggling renters emergency rental assistance and access to legal counsel to help resolve landlord-tenant disputes. Hernandez said it was jarring to see hundreds of people attending Oakland’s meeting, in person and virtually, while “not showing interest” on important local issues.
The resolution was Stefanik’s bid to leverage her grilling of the presidents of Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and MIT at the hearing where they declined to say if calls for the genocide of Jews violated campus codes of conduct. Regardless of the reason behind the decision, careful wording in resolutions is paramount to avoid additional strife, Hall said. Department of Justice mediator helped communities deal with conflicts due to race, religion and other matters for more than a decade. “Whichever way you vote, you will upset many Richmond residents who you have the responsibility of representing,” Wilk wrote. Berkeley’s council, though not currently in favor of making a resolution, was one of the first to call out South African apartheid in 1972. In Los Angeles, council members passed a resolution in 2003 opposing the Iraq War, and many cities passed resolutions showing solidarity with Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion. The city of Richmond voted to support the Palestinian people in Gaza with a controversial resolution after a marathon City Council meeting. An official vote is expected to take place at an upcoming meeting. Cudahy’s said Palestinians had “lived under violent and dehumanizing conditions” and that the council was “grieving all lives lost as a result of this genocide.” It passed with three votes for, one abstention and one absence.

The bill stalled in the Assembly last year over what, if anything, it should specify about wages and the distribution of skilled workers for construction projects.

How to Choose the Best Na Pali Boat Tour (& Napali Sunset Cruise Review)
There’s plenty of room to stretch out and relax on Leila, both inside the cabin and on deck, and there are two bathrooms for everyone’s convenience. You may still be hungry after a sunset dinner cruise since the food offering is late. Therefore, you may wish to head to one of the restaurants in Poipu for some more food. Consider restuarants, such as Brennecke’s Beach Broiler or Stevenson’s Library, or grab a quick snack from Puka Dog or Bubba Burgers.
You’ll cut through the waves onboard the Imiloa, an express catamaran that promises to get you to the coastline faster than most. On board, a USCG licensed captain provides narration while a friendly crew serves you at your seats. A light late lunch of turkey or veggie wraps is included in the price, and beer, wine and Mai Tai’s are available too. The tours set off in the mid-afternoon and return just after sunset.

Seeing the napali coast from the catamaran was an experience I will not forgot. More dolphins and some awesome facts and history from Captain Chris (who was FANTASTIC). However, if you are looking for better lighting on the Na Pali Coast, you should book an afternoon Na Pali Coast tour. In winter, Na Pali Coast tours operate only from the Port Allen area in the Southwest of Kauai. However, in summer, Na Pali Coast tours depart from the North (Hanalei area) and the Southwest. As we set off on our way towards the Na Pali Coast the crew started serving beverages, such as wine, Sneaky Tikis (similar to Mai Tais) and soft drinks.

It’s the waterfalls, and the birds flying through Honopu Arch. Even when conditions aren’t “perfect”, Napali always seems to have a way of showing the love and making the trip special. Super nice people and they definitely do make the trip so much more enjoyable. The crew is constantly interacting with the tourists. They tell stories of the areas that you are visiting and offer to take pictures constantly.

It was one of the highlights of my holiday and I would have been upset to miss out. A benefit of a winter Na Pali Coast boat tour is that you may see Humpback Whales. We saw several whales during our sunset sail, and it was incredible. Tours depart from the North Shore and West/Southwest Kauai in summer. Plus, in the summer or during calm conditions, you can snorkel and visit caves along the coast.
After the sun sinks into the ocean and under the horizon, we’ll return safely back to the dock in Port Allen before it’s completely dark. On this Na Pali Coast sunset cruise, you will enjoy the views of Niihau, another Hawaiian island, as you leave the port and head up the coast. My original boat tour was booked for early in my trip in January 2022, but it was cancelled due to the torrential rain and storm surge we were experiencing.
